Frequently asked questions
Answers to the 10 questions we hear most. Can't find yours? Ask in the chat at the bottom right, or call us.
What are your opening hours?
We are open Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm and Saturday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm Eastern Time. We are closed on Sundays and on major US holidays.
What should I do in an emergency?
Vet Clinic is not an emergency hospital. If your pet has a life-threatening emergency — trouble breathing, collapse, heavy bleeding, suspected poisoning, a seizure, or a swollen, hard belly — go straight to the nearest 24-hour emergency animal hospital. When we are closed, our phone line plays the details of the nearest 24-hour emergency hospital.
If you are not sure whether it is an emergency, call us during opening hours on +1 (859) 666-8011 and we will help you decide.
Are you taking new patients?
We welcome new dogs and cats. Call, chat with us or use the booking page to set up a first visit. Please ask your previous vet to email your pet's records to us before the appointment, or bring them with you. A first visit is a full wellness exam and takes about 40 minutes.
Which animals do you see?
Dogs and cats. We do not treat birds, reptiles, exotic pets, horses or farm animals — we are happy to suggest a specialist practice.
How do I pay? Do you take pet insurance?
Payment is due at the time of the visit. We accept cash, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Apple Pay and Google Pay. For surgery and dental procedures we ask for a 50% deposit when you book, based on the written estimate. We do not bill pet insurance directly, but we give you an itemized invoice and medical records to submit your claim.
How do I get a prescription refill?
Request a prescription refill by phone, chat or email at least 2 business days before you run out. Refills are ready for pickup at the front desk. We can only prescribe for pets we have examined in the last 12 months — that is a legal requirement for veterinarians in Kentucky.
What is the vaccination schedule for puppies and kittens?
Puppies and kittens get a vaccine series every 3–4 weeks, starting at 6–8 weeks old, until they are about 16 weeks old. Rabies is given at 12–16 weeks. After that, adult boosters are given every 1–3 years depending on the vaccine. Kentucky law requires rabies vaccination for dogs, cats and ferrets over 4 months old. We will set a plan for your pet's lifestyle at the first visit.
What should I bring to an appointment?
- Your pet on a leash, or in a closed carrier for cats and small dogs
- Previous medical and vaccination records (if it is your first visit)
- A list of current medications, supplements and food
- A fresh stool sample, if you have one (collected within 12 hours)
- Notes or a short video of anything unusual you have seen at home
Can I get a same-day appointment?
Yes, for sick or injured pets that are not in danger. We keep same-day slots open every weekday. Call as early in the day as you can; slots are first come, first served.
How can I contact you?
Call +1 (859) 666-8011, email [email protected], or use the chat button at the bottom right of any page. We are at 100 Example Way, Lexington, KY 40500.
